浄行菩薩
要傳寺の石仏の中で古くから庶民に信仰された菩薩。像高91.0cm、総高112.0cm。
銅板画「東京市下谷区上根岸町日蓮宗法住山要伝寺之景」では、浄行堂に奉安されている様子が見て取れます。
浄行菩薩（じょうぎょうぼさつ）は、『妙法蓮華経（法華経）』に登場する菩薩で、釈尊から末法（まっぽう）の時世に『法華経』を弘めることを付嘱（ふぞく）され命じられた「本化地涌（ほんげじゆ）の菩薩」と呼ばれる菩薩衆のひとり。
その呼称から、日蓮宗では古くより、衆生の身心を浄らかにする徳を有した菩薩として信奉されております。人々は、浄行菩薩の身体を洗い浄めることで、自身の汚れた六根（ろっこん）を清浄（しょうじょう）にし、迷いの煩悩（ぼんのう）から解脱（げだつ）することを祈念しました。
Jogyo Bodhisattva
In Chapter 15 of the Lotus Sutra, many superior Bodhisattvas appears from the space beneath this world "Saha" with a request of a Buddha. They are the original disciples of the Eternal Shakamuni Buddha, and are responsible for propagating the Lotus Sutra in the age of the end when the Dharma fell.
Pure Practice Bodhisattva "Jogyo" is one of them. The meaning of "jogyo" shows "virtue of clean water", so it's believed as "Buddhist statue of an amulet".
If you wash a body of this Bodhisattva, your sickness and the pain of your body would be taken.
