法住山 要伝寺

　当山は、山梨県身延山久遠寺(みのぶさんくおんじ)を総本山とする日蓮宗寺院です。その開闢(かいびゃく)は、江戸時代初期の元和元年（1615）、開山は本是院日厳(ほんぜいんにちごん)上人と伝えられます。
　慶長14年（1609）、下谷坂本（現、台東区根岸）界隈へ巡錫(じゅんしゃく)した本是院日厳上人は、当地の鎮守堂(ちんじゅどう)に参籠(さんろう)すること7ヶ月、元和元年（1615）3月28日に同地に一宇を建立いたしました。これをもって、当山の開創と定めております。
　天保12年（1841）、火災により焼失したため、当山の沿革・由緒はほとんど明らかではありません。安政2年（1855）には震災を、翌3年（1856）には暴風を被り、重ねて明治期の廃仏毀釈運動によって、殆ど廃寺に瀕する状態となりましたが、その後、明治15年（1882）に32世の俊中院日雅(しゅんちゅういんにちが)上人により当山は再興されます。
　大正12年（1923）の関東大震災および昭和20年（1945）の東京大空襲には大禍ありませんでしたが、隣接する言問通りの道路拡張工事にともなって、昭和46年（1971）に現在の堂宇に改築され、今日に至っております。(文責 髙森大乗)

　Yodenji-vihara is a temple of the Nichiren Sect of Buddhism with Minobusan Kuonji as its head temple in Yamanashi Prefecture. It was founded in 1615 during the early Edo period (1603-1868) by Rev.Honzein Nichigon.
　In 1609, Rev. Nichigon went around the area of Sitaya Sakamoto (present-day Negishi, Taito-ku, Tokyo) to proselytize. He stayed for seven months in a hall where a local guardian deity had long been enshrined, and on March 28, 1615, he built a temple on this site. This is regarded as the founding of the temple.
　Since it was destroyed by fire in 1841, the history of the temple is almost entirely unknown. Unfortunately, the temple was damaged by an earthquake in 1855, by a storm in 1856, and finally by the movement to abolish Buddhism in the early Meiji period (1868-1912), which almost led to its closure.The temple was later rebuilt in 1882 by the 32nd Rev.Shunchuin Nichiga.
　The temple was not severely damaged in the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 or the Tokyo Air Raid of 1945, but when the adjacent Kototoi-dori Avenue was widened in the 1970s, the temple was reconstructed into its current hall, which remains in use today. （Responsibility for the text：Daijo Takamori）
