玄性山 妙雲寺

ごあいさつ

［縁起］
元和年間（1615〜1624）に当地へ開創。守護神として若宮八幡社（堤方神社）を勧請したのもこの頃と思われ、のちに妙雲寺が別当となる起因となった。駐車場入口にある庚申塔は、青面金剛と三猿が「見ざる、聞かざる、言わざる」の謹慎態度を示して浮彫りにされたもので、水をかけて祈願すると足腰が丈夫になると伝えられている。

池上のお会式では、盛大な万灯練供養が営まれます。当山の五重塔型灯籠万灯には、21世日正上人の筆で『高祖日蓮大聖人御一代記』が描かれています。

【Origins】
This temple was founded during 1615－1624. It seems that Wakamiya-hachimansha Shrine was revered as a guardian deity at this time.
At the entrance of the parking lot, there is a statue of Shomen Kongo, who is said to remove sick demons, and three wise monkeys (see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil) that express the attitude of decency. Therefore, it is said that if you pray while pouring water on this statue, your legs and lower back will become strong.
 
 
【Message from the Chief Priest】
During the Oeshiki Festival, all members of the Ikegami Tsutsumikata Association will participate in the Mando parade. The Mando is similar to a parade float. It is shaped like a five-story pagoda. Each story has pictures drawn on it that show scenes from Nichiren Shonin’s biography written by Nissho Shonin, the 21st Chief Priest of Myounji Temple.
 
 
 
【A brief explanation of Nichiren Shonin and Ikegami 】
 
Nichiren Shonin (1222－1282) was a priest in the mid-Kamakura period and founder of the Nichiren Shu of Buddhism. “Shonin” means a “reverend priest.”
Nichiren Shu is a Buddhist Order that was founded more than 750 years ago. “Shu” simply means “Order.”
Nichiren Shonin founded Ikegami Honmonji Temple just before his death in October of 1282 at the request of Ikegami Munenaka, a wealthy feudal load and faithful follower.
