松栄山 妙経寺

ご挨拶

六本木ヒルズにお寺がある――
そう聞くと少し意外に思われるかもしれません。
妙経寺は、現代と伝統が交差するこの地で、約360年の歴史の中、お釈迦様日蓮聖人との御縁、また人と人との御縁を紡ぐお寺です。
六本木ヒルズさくら坂の側にある妙経寺にて、皆様のご参拝をお待ちしております。

創立　万治元年（西暦一六五八年）四月八日
開山　蓮池院日儀
開基　青山伊賀守藤原ノ忠勝

万治元（一六五八）年四月八日の創立と伝わる。開山蓮池院日儀。開基檀越青山伊賀守藤原忠勝。真言宗から身延山久遠寺の末寺として日蓮宗に改宗したと伝えられる。最初、「長福寺」と称したが、九代将軍家重の幼名「長福丸」をはばかって享保元（一七一六）年八月に現称とした。（創立は、「麻布區史」によれば寛永七（一六三〇）年または明暦元（一六五五）年三月十五日とあり、「港区史　上巻」によれば明暦元（一六五五）年三月十五日とあり、「御府内寺社備考　第六冊　時宗・法華宗」では寛永七（一六三〇）年とある）
本堂前の題目塔（寛政十二年　西暦一八〇〇年）には開運毘沙門天王安置と彫られており、当時は多くの参詣者で賑わっていたものと思われる。毘沙門天像は現在も本堂内に祀られている。
昭和二十年五月二十五日の大空襲にて本堂・庫裏が全焼。先代住職は満州に出征中であったが、先々代住職夫人・先代住職夫人は釈尊像・日蓮聖人像・毘沙門天像等を避難させ、一難を逃れた。
昭和四十四年四月に本堂、昭和四十九年十一月に庫裏がそれぞれ復興された。墓地内供養塔の屋根の上にある宝珠はこの本堂に設置されていたもの。
平成十三年十一月に、六本木六丁目地区市街地再開発事業（六本木ヒルズ建設）により現在地に移転。現在の住職は第二十五世。

The history of Myōkyōji
Shōeizan Myōkyōji was founded on 8th April 1658. Originally it was belong to Shingon Shū School and after converted to Nichiren Shū School. The original name of this temple, Chōfukuji was renamed Myōkyōji, the current name in 1716. The stūpa with Odaimoku (the ancient stone monument with the character南無妙法蓮華経 Namu Myōhō Renge Kyō, which located in front of the temple) was built in 1800. The epitaph “Enshrined Vaiśravaṇa* for good fortune” inscribed on its face makes us imagine that a lot of people came to this temple at that time.
The temple and monastery were completely burned down in the air attack on 25th May 1945. The 23rd chief minister of this temple, who was in charge at that moment, was in the front of war in Manshū (China), so to retain the temple, his wife and the wife of ex-chief refuged with three statues: Buddha Shākyamuni, Nichiren Shōnin and Vaiśravaṇa. The rebuilding of main temple has done on April 1969 and also of the monastery on November 1974. The temple Myōkyōji moved to the current place on November 2001 because of the developing project in this area, Roppongi Hills. Now the 24th chief minister is in charge of this temple.
The main information about our school “Nichiren Shū”
The Nichiren Shū is a Japanese Buddhist school, which was founded 28th April 1253 by Nichiren Shōnin. We believe in the supreme teaching of Buddha Shākyamuni, the Lotus Sūtra. And our founder Nichiren Shōnin propagated this teaching in Kamakura Era and his life was full of the experiences that the sutra shows as a life of believer of this sūtra. The doctrine of our school shows us that the essence of the Lotus Sūtra is condensed in the seven characters of 南無妙法蓮華経 Na-Mu Myō-Hō Ren-Ge Kyō, literally means “devotion to the Lotus Sūtra.” By believing this sūtra without any doubt and propagating it with all our heart, we will attain the peace and the happiness all over the world.
